David Spade Says Rob Lowe Roast Quickly Turned on Ann Coulter

"It was a firing squad."

Comedian David Spade appeared on the Today show and described how quickly the Comedy Central Rob Lowe Roast turned on last-minute guest Ann Coulter.

"It was a firing squad," the actor said. "It turned into a little bit of a debacle."

"We all just sort of burn each other," Spade added, "but when Ann Coulter was added late in the game, it did shift some of the heat off me and Rob."

The show aired on Labor Day, but it was already buzzing on social media for how Coulter was targeted. TruthRevolt reported on her reaction last week.

"I really want the world to see the whole roast without the edits," Coulter said. "My main satisfaction is knowing the difficulty the Comedy Central editors are having editing me trying to make me look bad and everyone else look good."

But since the jokes weren't yet known, we could only take Coulter at her word. But now, we have video and transcripts, though mostly edited as predicted.

SNL cast member Pete Davidson said, “If you are here, Ann, who is scaring the crows away from our crops? Ann describes herself as a polemicist but most people call her a c***. "

Singer Jewel was there. She bashed, "Ann, you do look great, though. You're almost as thin as Donald Trump's chance at winning the election."

There were plenty of jokes about her looks and about her set, which received mostly boos. Lowe quipped, “After seeing your set tonight, we’ve seen the first bombing you can’t blame on a Muslim."

Even Peyton Manning dogged the 54-year-old conservative pundit, joking that he wasn't the only athlete on the stage, seeing as Ann Coulter just won the Kentucky Derby.

One British comedian thought Coulter is so ugly, he suggested she kill herself.

Spade said on TODAY that the roasters were doing "cuter jokes" about him and the others but unleashed hell on Coulter.

"You know, those things get rough," Spade said. "And I don't know if she thought she's coming to The Golden Globes or something because it was really bad, really fast."

The main joke writer for the roast, Mike Lawrence, went on Facebook Live Tuesday to further humiliate Coulter saying, "She does not understand humor or joy." He then listed all the jokes Coulter turned down, even one about Hillary Clinton.

Yahoo! News didn't offer much sympathy:
