The University of Nottingham field hockey team has followed the lead of the Warwick Rowers by staging a nude group photo shoot to “fight homophobia” in sports. The video of their all-nude session has predictably gone viral—with outlets like the Mirror and NY Daily News covering the "hunky" team's stunt in glowing terms—and the team says their proud of the part they’re playing to help “every person [be] respected and treated as equals.”

The 17-man team produced the video in collaboration with the student-led Voice Your Rights Project, which declared on its Facebook page that it’s time to fight the “homophobia and fear” that is “rife in sport.” Out of the 541 participants in England’s 2014 Olympic teams, the group point out, only one was openly gay, while a majority of people witness homophobia at football matches.

VYRP’s Dimitri Vichas told the Mirror that he when he asked the team about the all-nude field hockey match photo-shoot, they "couldn't wait" to strip down for the cause:

When we asked the club if they'd be up for it, they didn't hesitate at all. As soon as they arrived on the day of the filming they were asking, "When do we get to take our clothes off?" They couldn't wait.

Field Hockey team member Piers Denning agreed with VYRP’s assessment of homophobia in sports, telling the Mirror that he and his teammates believe people shouldn’t have to “hide who they are.”

Homophobia is something that's been an issue in sport for a long time, and something all of us were aware of. For us sport is such a huge part of our university life and it should be available to everyone, without people feeling they have to hide who they are.
