On NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell called Hillary Clinton “out of touch” and lacking self-awareness before offering the presumptive 2016 Democrat candidate some advice: Stop giving paid speeches and stop asking colleges for money.

Host David Gregory set up the comment by decrying the "nastiness" of the "political rhetoric" surrounding Clinton's by all measures disastrous book tour. Mitchell tried to soften her criticism by saying that Clinton was just a bit “rusty” and reminding the audience that Hillary did, seriously, have “connection to hardworking people," but ripped the 2016 hopeful nonetheless:

Mitchell: The book tour has looked like a political campaign. I think it’s a little bit that she was rusty and a little bit of lack of self-awareness. When she talks about being dead broke and she then tried to fix it, but still, not getting the language, you know politically correct -- to really understand that she is a little bit out of touch, despite all of her work and all of her connection to hardworking people in the middle class.

Citing The Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus, Michell then gave Hillary some campaign advice:

Mitchell: She doesn’t quite realize, as Ruth Marcus wrote in the Washington Post, she should stop giving paid speeches, she should stop asking colleges to pay out of a foundation. She’s got enough money just let it go at this stage.

Hillary’s “dead broke” comment has created enough of a negative blowback to require Bill to swoop in for damage control. In an interview with Gregory that aired Sunday, Clinton defended his wife, insisting she’s definitely "not out of touch” because she has tirelessly advocated for “ordinary people”:

Bill Clinton: She's not out of touch. She advocated and worked as a senator for things that were good for ordinary people.
