Amid School Shooting, ABC Reminds Viewers of ‘Turmoil’ of Porter Scandal

"They've got a lot on their plate here today."

While covering the school shooting in Broward County, Florida Wednesday, reporter Cecilia Vega inexplicably went off the grid with an unrelated jab to President Donald Trump. After noting that the President had been briefed on the latest in the shooting, the ABC News Special Report correspondent tried to tie it in to a reminder that the Trump administration is being dogged by a scandal:

"We are expecting a briefing in the hour from Press Secretary Sarah Sanders. And of course, as you know, George, this very tragic incident comes as this White House is in turmoil right now over this with this Rob Porter scandal.

"So they've got a lot on their plate here today."

Of course, Vega was simply making sure that, despite the school shooting dominating the news, viewers don't forget that President Trump is in "turmoil" over allegations of domestic abuse against Porter, and that Trump is guilty by association. See the transcript of Vega's comment below:

VEGA: Just a few minutes ago, we did hear from White House Deputy Press Secretary Lindsay Walters who told us that President Trump has been briefed on this shooting in Florida. We're told that the White House is actively monitoring the situation and of course, they extend their thoughts and prayers to those who are affected.

Strangely enough this is the second alert that this White House has had to send out today. The second time the President briefed on a shooting, of course earlier, that incident at Fort Meade and they sent out a statement about that. We are expecting a briefing in the hour from Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.

And of course, as you know, George, this very tragic incident comes as this White House is in turmoil right now over this with this Rob Porter scandal. So they’ve got a lot on their plate here today.

ANCHOR GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: They have a lot going on there today.

"A lot going on?" ABC has a lot going on -- a lot of Trump-hating.
