On Friday's Hardball, MSNBC host Alex Wagner joined Chris Matthews and, during a conversation about the alleged hatred of Obama, attempted a joke about the Speaker of the House being on drugs.
Matthews played a clip of John Boehner on Meet The Press with David Gregory in 2011 when the Republican leader said it was not his job to tell the American people what to think about President Obama.
Matthews addressed Wagner comparing Boehner's demeanor to Sergeant Schultz from Hogan's Heroes saying,
You know that was the groggiest look and answer. How can he say it's not his job to tell the American people what to think? He's the leader of the Congress, he's the Speaker of the House, second in line to the presidency. He's supposed to be a leader and he says 'That's not my job.' It's almost like Sergeant Schultz.
Wagner perked up adding,
He's groggy because the mickeys that he's been being slipped by the Heritage Foundation are maybe wearing off!
Matthews laughed and then threw Wagner a life-line saying she was making a "metaphorical point" and she agreed. A "mickey" is an alcoholic drink surreptitiously laced with drugs.
