Tuesday’s episode of The Mayor reminded viewers of the show’s decisive leftist tilt. Entitled “City Hall-oween,” the ABC comedy followed Mayor Courtney Rose (played by Brandon Michael Hall) to a Halloween party at city hall designed to provide a safe and spooky way for kids to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve. Things took a turn toward true horror, however, when the mayor’s mother, Dina, showed up dressed as a formidable monster indeed: ultra-left-wing Congresswoman Maxine Waters:
Courtney: How you supposed to scare anyone dressed like Phylicia Rashad?
Dina: Boy, I am not Phylicia Rashad. Who am I?
Courtney: Clair Huxtable.
Dina: I am the mighty Congresswoman Maxine Waters!
Courtney: No one's ever gonna get that.
Jermaine: Whoa, Maxine Waters, look out! She's about to reclaim her time!
Dina: Haha! Reclaiming my time!
The fictional script turned all-too realistic when Dina, dressed as Waters, said, "Okay, now, if you excuse me, I got to go, uh, give these kids some nightmares. Put 'em all in therapy." Yes, that's an appropriate summary of the effect of the far-left representative from California, especially given her nightmarish record.
In 2000, Waters praised the murderous Cuban dictator Fidel Castro by chanting, “Viva Fidel!” when Castro spoke at a Harlem church. Two years earlier, she voted for the extradition of cop-killer Assata Shakur from Cuba to the United States; however, upon finding that Shakur was a Black Panther, she rescinded her vote in a letter to Castro, relabeling the murderer as simply “a political activist.” Furthermore, she once claimed the CIA was supplying inner-city blacks with crack, and she referred to the violent LA riots — which killed 55 people, caused roughly 2,000 injuries, warranted 7,000 arrests, burned 4,000 buildings, and accrued almost $1 billion in property damage — “understandable, if not acceptable.”
Dressing as Waters for Halloween, or any occasion for that matter, is all trick and no treat. Why ABC would want to shine a positive light on a left-wing nut who recently compared the Republican Party to the KKK is a real head-scratcher. But on a night when people honor the ugliest and scariest manifestations of our worst nightmares, we suppose it's fitting.
