YMCA Scranton Bans News Channels After Gym Arguments Get Heated

Let's get political, political. I wanna get political. Let's get into politics. You're a stupid Democrat.

Normally, a gym is the perfect place to get physical, but some members of the Greater Scranton YMCA were putting down the weights and almost coming to blows. Because of the divided states of America, politics at this particular YMCA is now a no-go zone and the televisions will no longer be tuned into the news channels.

Now, instead of Fox News, MSNBC, or CNN, Y members in Scranton enjoy The Weather Channel or HGTV for soothing images of meteorology and construction.

YMCA CEO Trish Fisher sent a letter to members explaining that several incidents had led to the decision, including a near locker-room fight.

"There was one that was broken up by another member that was just about ready to go physical and we've had members step forward saying they've felt a little uncomfortable about the arguments that were going on over the politics," Fisher told WBRE.

Fisher said it probably won’t stop every political discussion but hopes to at least “tone down the rhetoric.”

But these feisty YMCA members are also split on the decision. Some said it was an “over-reaction” while others said it’s a welcome change because they came to the gym “to get de-stressed.” Will they ever get along?

The location said the ban is permanent unless things return to a more civilized atmosphere.
