College students love to decorate their dorm rooms and a personal touch many choose to add is a whiteboard on their door. It gives them a place to write quotes or funny messages to their dorm mates. Sure, occasionally some goofball comes along and writes something stupid or maybe even offensive. But the best thing to do is just get out the eraser, right? Not in today’s progressive culture.

Michigan State University has a new rule for Fall 2017 for dorm residents: no whiteboards because somebody might write or draw something offensive. Rule number one in a fascist society is take away good things from everybody after one person does something wrong.

Speaking to The College Fix, MSU’s residential services director Kat Cooper said about the marker boards, “Their utility as a communication tool no longer outweighed the attractive nuisance that they are.”

“In any given month, there are several incidents like this [hurtful words],” she added. “There was no one incident that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Sometimes these things are racial, sometimes they’re sexual in nature. There are all sorts of things that happen.”

But most students say they use them for inspirational messages or to pose questions and meet up later for discussions. “We’re all adults,” one student said, noting how rare whiteboards are defaced. 

For the local NAACP chapter, though, removing the offending object was considered a “victory” especially after an “incident at MSU when a young African American honors student had ‘The N Word’ written on her dorm room whiteboard,” according to a Facebook post.

Readers of that post didn’t agree with the assessment:

“How is this a victory when every dorm resident will be punished because of one racist idiot? What does this accomplish exactly? It seems to me you’re giving more power to the racist. Should we have limited skyscrapers to only 10 stories after 9/11 in an effort to end terrorism? Help me to understand the reasoning and logic.”

“I wouldn’t call this a victory. The boards are not doing the bullying, and surely removing them will not stop racist bullying on campus or anywhere else.”  

Nice try, free speechers. Banning whiteboards has been the answer all along to racism and bullying. Without them, where will the bigots be able to write down anything hateful? Love (and logic) wins.
