The College Fix has learned that white men “need not apply” for a $10,000 social justice journalism grant, because only women and people of color are eligible.
The Brandeis University Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism and its Fund for Investigative Journalism, both funded by the social justice philanthropic Ford Foundation, is offering the grant for the second year in a row. The goal is to gain journalists from underrepresented racial groups “to report and write important stories about unreported or underreported social justice issues.”
Eligibility requirements include “women and journalists of color working in any type of media” and must be U.S. citizens.
“The selected journalists will receive competitively awarded grants from the Fund for Investigative Journalism, which will provide up to $10,000 to pay the expenses of reporting a specific investigative story, covering costs such as travel, document fees, equipment rentals, and small stipends,” a news release states. “Recipients will also be awarded Schuster Institute fellowships, which will give them an academic appointment and institutional home, access to paid research assistance, the extensive offerings of Brandeis University’s library and technology services, mentoring, editorial guidance, and opportunities for pro bono, media-related legal advice from a major New York firm.”
In addition, the fellow will become a part of the institute’s “Newsroom Without Walls.” Well, there is a wall for white males, but you catch their drift. Also, the program is only open to independent journalists, not university students.
Last year when Brandeis searched for applicants, the university said, “Without greater diversity in journalism, some very important stories are never pitched, some assignments never made, facts never gathered, and serious abuses of power never uncovered.”
And without white males, the world would be a better place. For one thing, there’d be no United States of America. Leftists would probably really like that.
