A picture posted to social media has left the military community baffled. It shows West Point graduate, Second Lt. Spenser Rapone throwing up a fist in uniform and showing the inside of his cap, which reads, “Communism will win.” The picture is hastagged #VeteransForKaepernic, in support of the former 49ers quarterback.
Rapone’s Twitter handle is @punkproletarian and his username is Commie Bebop. His profile describes himself as “Commie/space cowboy/straight edge insomniac.” Law Newz verified Rapone’s identity and added that he is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. One of his badges is a Combat Infantryman Badge, which indicates Rapone has fought in active ground combat. Law Newz actually spoke with Rapone who told them he couldn’t talk further because he is “currently in the field.”
West Point has responded to the photograph on Tuesday and condemns the actions:
The U.S. Military Academy strives to develop leaders who internalize the academy's motto of Duty, Honor, Country, and who live the Army values. Second Lieutenant Rapone's actions in no way reflect the values of the U.S. Military Academy or the U.S. Army.
As figures of public trust, members of the military must exhibit exemplary conduct, and are prohibited from engaging in certain expressions of political speech in uniform. Second Lieutenant Rapone's chain of command is aware of his actions and is looking into the matter.
The academy is prepared to assist the officer's chain of command as required.
Rapone has also contributed a piece to Meium on “The Confederate Collaboration of West Point” that criticizes his alma mater’s “Confederate legacy.”
In another Twitter post, Rapone shows of his T-shirt he wore under his uniform of the mass murdering communist Che Guevera. Note the caption:
Townhall responded appropriately: “[D]oesn't Rapone's cause pretty much call for the overthrow of the U.S. government and our Constitution?”
Borrowing Rapone’s own words... In case there was any lingering doubt, there are traitors in our midst.
