A West Covina, California police officer might have just secured a career in the NFL after he leaped into action and tackled a 28-year-old man striking the station’s windows with a baseball bat.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect, Christopher Rivas, calmly approach the police station and start hitting the large glass windows with an aluminum bat. Three women were in the lobby and quickly fled to safety. Rivas slowly walks towards the automatic doors and continues his threat. He never entered the facility but stood just outside the doors swinging menacingly.

That gave one cop enough time to come around from the back of the building and engage the unsuspecting suspect. And by engage, I mean nearly break him in half with a waist-high, blind-side tackle that turned Rivas’s spine into a wet noodle. It was at that time that Rivas finally entered the lobby, though not by choice.

The officer wasn’t hurt, and there was no broken glass. Officers on the inside helped cuff Rivas and took him into custody. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Rivas faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He was released to the Los Angeles County Medical Center for evaluation, reports the LA Times.
