Posters mocking UCLA as the "University of Communism Los Angeles" were found in front of the UCLA campus in Los Angeles Friday morning around 6:00 am local time, a day before the rival USC-UCLA football game. The posters, which read, "Go USC, Beat UCLA," also depict a Bruin Bear - UCLA's mascot - in a soviet-style communist uniform. USC students are believed to be the culprits.
The posters were found at all main entrances to campus including Wilshire Blvd. and Sunset Blvd as well as on campus near the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital.
The poster art reflects historical elements of cultural marxism on UCLA's campus, including a growing anti-Israel movement, and the recent rehiring of Communist professor Angela Davis.
Davis, a former member of the Black Panthers and recipient of the Communist "International Lenin Peace Prize," first taught at UCLA in 1969. She was charged in 1970 for co-conspiring in the kidnapping and murder of a Marin County Judge (Judge Harold Haley’s head was blown off by a sawed-off shotgun owned by Davis).
In Spring 2014, Davis was nominated by the UCLA Department of Gender Studies to re-join its faculty as a Distinguished Professor Emerita and a Regents' Lecturer.
More recently, earlier this month, UCLA's undergraduate Student Government voted 8-2 in favor of divestment, a resolution that urged the UC system to sell off stock in companies that do business with the Israeli military or otherwise profit from what students believe is an Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory.
UCLA, funded predominantly with taxpayer dollars, is regarded by many as the most prestigious school within the statewide University of California system, behind UC Berkeley.
The #24 ranked Trojans face the #11 ranked Bruins at the Rose Bowl on Saturday to mark the 82nd time the Southern California crosstown rivals have faced off. USC leads the overall football series, 44–30–7.
