There’s at least one person in Hollywood that isn’t sold on the idea of Oprah Winfrey running for president. Roseanne Barr thinks a better choice would be herself.
“I do love Oprah. Of course I love Oprah like everybody else, but you know what? I think it was time for us as a country to shake things up and try something different,” Barr said.
In real life, Barr voted for Trump. In the revival of her upcoming ABC television show Roseanne, her character also voted for Trump. She explained:
“I’ve always attempted to portray a realistic portrait of the American people and working-class people, and in fact, it was working-class people who elected Trump, so I felt that yeah, that was very real, and something that needed to be discussed and especially about polarization in the family, and people actually hating other people for the way they voted, which I feel is not American.”
Barr was also asked if she would throw support behind Susan Sarandon if not Oprah. She responded with a laugh, “I think I would be a better president than Oprah and Susan Sarandon, and possibly even President Trump. And I did run in 2012.”
Barr has defended Trump against accusations that he is a racist. She told someone in an interview, “Well, that’s your opinion,” when they said Trump is racist. They were trying a gotcha question by reminding her that in the first round of Roseanne, her character was against racism.
She added about Trump:
“He says a lot of crazy shit… I’m not a Trump apologist, but there are a lot of things he has said and done that I don’t agree with, like there’s probably a lot of things Hillary Clinton has done and said that you don’t agree with, and so nobody is brainwashed into agreeing with 100 percent of what anybody says, let alone a politician or a candidate.”
Barr said voters always have to pick between “the lesser of two evils” and must come to grips with their own decisions. What she would like to see is an end to the divisiveness in the country.
And what we would like to see is an original idea come out of Hollywood and not another reboot.
