President Donald Trump said that while he would have preferred that Republicans kept Roy Moore's Alabama Senate seat won by Doug Jones on Tuesday night, he told reporters at the White House on Wednesday that it won't stop his agenda.

"I don't think it's going to affect it, I think we are doing a lot. This is the biggest thing that we've worked on," Trump said in reference to the tax reform package he is looking to pass.

Trump said he would like to see a vote on the the combined tax proposal being worked out between the House and Senate bills as early as next week, reports Fox News.

“We are very close to a legislative victory,” said Trump, joined at the White House by top congressional Republicans who are negotiating the projected, $1.5 trillion compromise plan. “We are very, very close. … For me this is very simple: This is about middle-class tax cuts and jobs.”

Among the leaders seated beside Trump was Utah GOP Sen. Orin Hatch, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, who said: “We’ll get it done.”  

Trump also said that Americans need to elect more Republicans to the House and Senate in 2018 in order to make sure that proposals like the tax package are passed.
