Al Sharpton welcomed Tracy Martin, Trayvon Martin's father, and used the 2 year anniversary of Trayvon's death to bash 'Stand Your Ground' laws on Tuesday's edition of Politics Nation.
Tracy Martin said testifying before Congress and being outspoken about 'Stand Your Ground' laws and the Zimmerman case has helped his family heal, but he said they are still praying for answers while they grieve the loss of their teenaged son. Martin called his son a 'game-changer' and 'problem solver' who he wished was still around to make a difference.
During the interview Sharpton asked Mr. Martin about the Michael Dunn trial in Florida. Sharpton has frequently compared George Zimmerman and Michael Dunn's cases. In November 2012 Dunn shot at a vehicle with four black teenagers inside after an alleged argument where Dunn said he felt in fear of his life. Dunn's gunshots killed 17 year old Jordan Davis.
Mr. Martin said he feels for the Davis family and has gotten to know them well through their process of fighting gun laws. When Sharpton said he appreciated the Martin family always holding peaceful rallies Tracy said,
I feel as though this country actually values guns more than they do our children's lives... that's sad. But, as far as being peaceful... I don't really think that God, uh that Trayvon can rest unless we continued to being peaceful.
During Wednesday's "The Lead" Sharpton started his show talking about how many concealed and carry holders there are in Florida, a number he claimed had increased since 'Stand your Ground' laws were implemented, and called 'Stand Your Ground' laws a "national injustice."
