A married father of two and ten-year veteran of law enforcement was gunned down in a shocking and brazen attack on Friday night, leading to a currently ongoing manhunt for the gunman. CNN describes the shooting as being "execution-style" while Associated Press says the Sheriff's Deputy was "ambushed."
Deputy Darren Goforth, 47, was pumping gas about 8:30 p.m. Friday when a man approached him from behind and fired multiple shots, Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ryan Sullivan told The Associated Press.
Police described the suspect as a man believed to be between 20 and 25 years old and stands about 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall. He was wearing a white T-shirt and red shorts and driving a red or maroon pickup-style truck with an extended cab.
According to CNN Goforth fell to the ground after being shot and the gunman kept shooting.
When Goforth fell to the ground, the gunman stood over him and shot him some more, authorities said. He died at the scene.
"He was literally gunned down in what appears to be an unprovoked, execution-style killing," Hickman said. "I have been in law enforcement for 45 years, I have never seen anything this cold-blooded."
At this point police have not stated a suspected motive for the killing.
