A busy site of public transportation was again the target of terrorism in Brussels, Belgium, on Tuesday just over a year after a coordinated, deadly attack was carried out at the Zaventem Airport and Maalbeek Metro station. Thankfully, only the terrorist died in this attempted attack.
It is reported that the suspect entered the capitol city’s busiest railway station around 9 p.m. wearing a suicide vest and shouting “Allahu Akbar.” Eyewitnesses say they heard two separate explosions and then rapid gunshots as soldiers arrived on the scene. A picture of what is possibly the suspect on fire was released, but reports say the terrorist was shot and neutralized by the police force.
Tourists and rail riders panicked and fled the scene and were evacuated from the city’s hot-spot, the Grand Place, as officers feared the man wasn’t acting alone.
The Daily Mail reports:
Police sources said the attacker was seriously injured in the blast, and subsequently died from his wounds.
'Efforts were made to save him, but he is dead,' said one of the sources, who added that 'the situation is now under control.'
'The attacker was shot several times, and it appears that he triggered a device,' said the source. There are no other casualties.
The photo of the scene is shown in the above video. The man who took the picture is interviewed and gives his account of what he saw and heard.
