Just days after potential 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush admitted to smoking pot in his youth, Sen. Ted Cruz' (R-TX) office has confirmed that the first-term Republican also dabbled in cannabis when he was younger. 

The Daily Mail had the exclusive report Tuesday afternoon: 

Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz smoked marijuana in his youth, his campaign told Daily Mail Online on Tuesday – putting him in the same camp as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who acknowledged his high school pot-smoking days on Friday.

'Teenagers are often known for their lack of judgment, and Sen. Cruz was no exception,' a Cruz spokesperson said.

'When he was a teenager, he foolishly experimented with marijuana. It was a mistake, and he's never tried it since.'

The spokesperson wouldn't elaborate about how many times Cruz had tried the illegal drug, over how long a period the experimentation occurred, and exactly how old he was at the time.

As one would expect, media outlets like Huffington Post have attempted to suggest that Cruz' admission in some way makes him a hypocrite if he now advocates for strict laws on pot. In their article on the story they included this passage:  

Cruz has criticized President Barack Obama for allowing recreational marijuana laws to go into effect in Colorado and Washington state without federal intervention.

"The Obama administration's approach to drug policy is to simply announce that across the country, it is going to stop enforcing certain drug laws," Cruz told Reasonlast year. "Now, that may or may not be a good policy, but I would suggest that should concern anyone -- it should even concern libertarians who support that policy outcome -- because the idea that the president simply says criminal laws that are on the books, we're going to ignore [them]. That is a very dangerous precedent."

Nowhere in the article is a reminder that President Obama has admitted to using cocaine, habitually smoking pot and, of course, he once ate a dog.
