The mounting level of discussion of impeaching Barack Obama serves no legitimate purpose, other than to help Democrats fundraise, according to Truth Revolt Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro.

Appearing as a featured guest of CSPAN's Washington Journal Friday morning, Shapiro noted that the talk about impeachment would provide no functional benefit to anyone looking to "shrink the size and scope of government so it's not as oppressive and burdensome":

The fact that the White House wants to talk about impeachment all the time is evidence that they're interested in using it for political gain. The President is guilty of impeachable offenses. Does that mean he should be impeached politically? Of course not. Nancy Pelosi had the right response to this question. When she was asked this question in 2005 or 2006, she said, "Yes, Bush is guilty of impeachable offenses but we can't impeach him." Okay, that's the right answer. That's actually true for President Obama. And I think it's important to recognize that even though the President may have committed impeachable offenses there are political realities to deal with, and the only way to really stop Executive Branch overreach is not even to impeach President Obama. Because here is the truth, and I know people think on the right for some reason think that moving President Obama out of office would be some sort of political panacea. It would not be. Joe Biden would simply take over, you'd have an Executive branch that's 3,000,000 people strong, you have regulatory agencies armed to the teeth in every area of American life, and changing who occupies the Oval Office is not going to change any of that. This is going to take a significantly more long and determined effort in order to minimize and shrink the size and scope of government so it's not as oppressive and burdensome as it in your life right now and that does not change just by getting rid of one guy in the Oval Office.
