CNN continues reaching new lows in its 24/7 anti-Trump coverage. Not one to shy away from using child props to further its agenda, CNN once again called on one of the youngest in America to push a gun control narrative and paint President Trump in a negative light.
On Monday, anchor Brooke Baldwin trotted out 7-year-old Ava Olsen via Skype who wrote an emotional letter to President Trump back in August asking him what he plans to do to keep children safe from shooters at school. Olsen remains traumatized from witnessing a shooting in 2016 at her elementary school in South Carolina. Her best friend Jacob was shot and killed on the playground and a teacher and another student were injured. Little Ava said in her letter that she had planned on marrying Jacob one day.
That was good fodder for Baldwin to play up when reading back Trump’s response which she obviously felt was lousy. Also, CNN carefully edited the president’s response to make it seem like he ignored the girl’s concern. Baldwin read:
“Dear Ava, thank you for your letter. It is very brave of you to share your story with me. Mrs. Trump and I are so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, Jacob. It is my goal as President to make sure the children in America grow up in safe environments, giving them the best opportunity to realize their full potential.”
Baldwin glossed over the fact that Ava, sitting next to her mother, thought it was cool to receive a letter from the president and got down to business: “Did it answer all the questions you have for the president?”
Why, of course not! Thankfully, Baldwin was there to help the little girl say the right thing: “You, Ava, wanted specifics from the president and you’re right to ask.”
Baldwin re-read Ava’s questions: “Are you going to keep kids safe? … Are you going to keep us safe?”
Baldwin then spattered off that there’s been three school shootings since the beginning of 2018. TruthRevolt has already debunked that rhetoric since the source for most of these claims comes from Everytown for Gun Safety which tracks BB-gun incidents as school shootings.
CNN’s crack editing department left off the important parts of Trump’s letter that specifically addressed school violence. Here is a less -edited version of the letter:
Schools are places where children learn and grow with their friends. Their halls should be free of fear. It is my goal as President to make sure that children in America grow up in safe environments, giving them the best opportunity to realize their full potential. I will continue to focus on protecting Americans and improving the safety of our Nation.
Mrs. Trump and I hold you close in our hearts. We hope you always remember that no matter what may happen, there are so many people in your life who love you, support you, and want to see you fulfill all your dreams.
Trump, nor any president, should be put in the position to tell a child anything other than they’re cared for and are loved. No one expects them to get into complex policy proposals on guns or any subject. Except for CNN, which accepts nothing less from the White House than gun control now. The way they framed the story: Trump is heartless and doesn’t care that elementary kids are getting mowed down by flying lead.
