Sanders Would Only Nominate SCOTUS Justices Who'd Ban Koch Money

"I do not exaggerate when I tell you that the foundations of American democracy are being undermined."

Speaking to students at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics Monday, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said he would nominate only Supreme Court justices that would overturn the Citizens United decision that allowed big money to go towards elections.

Banning billionaires like the Koch brothers from using their money to influence elections is top priority for Sanders, should he be elected president. And his first order of business would be to get SCOTUS on his side:

No nominee of mine to the United States Supreme Court will get that job unless he or she is loud and clear that one of their first orders of business will be to overturn Citizens United.

Citizens United is a conservative lobbying group that was involved in a Federal Election Commission lawsuit that intended to dictate how the nonprofit group could advertise and spend money during the election season.

Sanders want groups like these, super PACs, and the Koch brothers out of politics and let the candidates themselves influence voters without all the money behind them:

You are not looking at democracy, you are looking at oligarchy and we have got to change that. I do not exaggerate when I tell you that the foundations of American democracy are being undermined. American democracy is not supposed to be about billionaires buying elections.
