Speaking with Breitbart News on Monday, Fox News contributor and retired Marine Lt. Col. Bill Cowan called ESPN commentator Kevin Blackistone’s comments on the national anthem “outrageously disrespectful” to veterans. On Around the Horn on November 6, Blackistone stated that the national anthem should not be played before sporting events because it was a “war anthem,” adding, “When you have military flyovers and the military symbolism that goes on in sports, I think you’ve got a problem.”

Cowan told Breitbart News that Blackistone’s comments were “outrageously disrespectful to the millions of men and women who throughout our history have served this great nation in one capacity or another, and to those brave souls who paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend the freedoms we all enjoy today.” Cowan went on to blast Blackistone personally: “Blackistone is a beneficiary of those freedoms, but it's apparent he has no clue from whence they came.”
