Report: Army Wants to Charge Bergdahl with Desertion

Will the Obama Administration block the proceedings?

According to inside sources at the Pentagon, the U.S. Army has determined that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should be charged with desertion for walking away from his platoon in Afghanistan in 2009.  The news broke Monday night on Fox News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor by Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer (ret):

Shaffer: Bill, the Army has come to its conclusion and Bowe Bergdahl. Sgt. Bergdahl will be charged with desertion. I have been told and confirmed by two other sources that his attorney was given what we call a charge sheet. A charge sheet is results of the investigation listing out the articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice that have been violated. The key violation is desertion. And this is has been done. The decision has been made. Let me be very clear. As a corporate entity, the Army has decided that they want to pursue Bergdahl for this violation.

Shaffer is a CIA-trained army officer who served in Afghanistan immediately following the 9/11 attacks. His memoirs, Operation Dark Heart, has been censored by the U.S. government due to the sensitive information he was able to obtain from his sources. Since the publishing of his book, Shaffer has maintained his sources and has been able to break additional stories on the military.

According to Shaffer the Obama Administration is working behind the scenes on how best to handle the bombshell charges:

Shaffer: This is shaping up to be a Titanic struggle behind the scenes. Believe me, the Army here wants to do the right thing. Factually, there’s no way they can not do the right thing regarding Bergdahl. And the White House, because of the political narrative, President Obama cozying up to the parents and because he, President Obama, releasing the five Taliban… The narrative is what the White House does not want to have come out.

If Bergdahl does get charged for desertion, the inescapable narrative for the Obama Administration will be that the president traded 5 high-level Taliban officers from the detainee center at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for a man who willingly left his comrades at a time of war and ended up in the hands of the enemy.
