Music industry icon Quincy Jones held very little back in a wide-ranging, weird interview with Vulture published Wednesday, according to Breitbart, hurling insults at Donald Trump and claiming to have dated the President's daughter Ivanka.
“I used to date Ivanka, you know,” said the 84-year-old mega-producer. “Yes, sir. Twelve years ago. Tommy Hilfiger, who was working with my daughter Kidada, said, ‘Ivanka wants to have dinner with you.’ I said, ‘No problem. She’s a fine motherfucker.'”
Is it ageist of me to be highly skeptical that Ivanka, who would have been 24 at the time, wanted to have dinner with Jones, who would have been 72, because she had romantic designs on him? As a music fan, I'd like to have dinner with Quincy Jones too; that doesn't mean I want to date him.
This isn't the only eyebrow-raising comment Jones lobbed in the interview, in which he also hinted that Marlon Brando had sex with Marvin Gaye and claimed to know that the Mafia ordered JFK's assassination.
“She had the most beautiful legs I ever saw in my life,” Jones added about Ivanka. "Wrong father, though."
About her presidential father, Jones blamed the current state of America's racial tensions on “Trump and uneducated rednecks. Trump is just telling them what they want to hear. I used to hang out with him. He’s a crazy motherfucker. Limited mentally — a megalomaniac, narcissistic. I can’t stand him.”
“He doesn’t know shit,” Jones continued. “Someone who knows about real leadership wouldn’t have as many people against him as he does. He’s a fucking idiot.”
Speaking of someone who knows nothing about real leadership and has a lot of people against her, Jones had this to say about Trump's election opponent Hillary Clinton: “I was around the White House for eight years with the Clintons,” he said, cryptically adding that Hillary is disliked “because there’s a side of her — when you keep secrets, they backfire… I know too much, man.”
Then you'd better watch your back, Quincy. People who know too much about the Clintons have a way of turning up mysteriously suicided.
On the #MeToo movement of women alleging sexual assaults by many of Hollywood biggest names, Jones said, “Feminism: Women are saying they’re not going to take it anymore. Racism: People are fighting it. God is pushing the bad in our face to make people fight back.”
Well, God may work in mysterious ways, but your explanation doesn't sound plausible, Quincy. Better stick to music and leave the theology be.
“Women had to put up with fucked-up shit. Women and brothers — we’re both dealing with the glass ceiling,” said a brother with 27 Grammys. “It was all of them. Brett Ratner. [Harvey] Weinstein. Weinstein — he’s a jive motherfucker. Wouldn’t return my five calls. A bully.”
Asked about Bill Cosby, the target of a string of sexual assault allegations longer than Quincy's list of musical credits, Jones said, “We can’t talk about this in public, man.”
Asked if he believes his friend Oprah Winfrey would make a good president, Jones said she shouldn’t run for the office because “she doesn’t have the chops for it.”
Finally, something Quincy and I can agree on.
