Judging by the Last Supper-inspired promo poster for the announcement of the fifth installment of Ubisoft’s Far Cry game series, a new enemy has come to America: white people.

Gaming has always been political, but typically, and especially in the Far Cry series, the story lines involve defeating a foreign dictator or some drug king pin. But this time, the politics are hitting closer to home. The setting for this video game is not in some South Pacific island but in the heartland American west — the fictional town of Hope County, Montana.

The promo poster is purposefully inciting and the interpretations range from a white-nationalist, Christian cult to images of Scientology, though the latter's extremely doubtful. The main villain has his arms outstretched like a Jesus figure surrounded by a bearded, white brood; one sporting the hipster/neo-Nazi hair style. There’s raw red meat on the table, apple pie, and plenty of munitions to go around. In the background is a small white church. Three American flags fly prominently. The stars, however, are replaced with what some say resemble the Nazi Iron Cross or even Scientology’s logo. (Also the blue coloration of the church roof is similar to the church’s LA headquarters.) A shirtless, bloodied man is tied up on the ground in front of the table with the word “sinner” scrawled on his back.

A teaser trailer released by Ubisoft doesn’t provide much more detail other than confirming that white American isolationists are the enemy and seem to enjoy Christian hymns. It begins with a terrifying scream and a man running through a crop field. A single gun shot is heard as the screen goes black. The camera flies over the white church house as "Amazing Grace" plays sinisterly in the background. A man is in the steeple, slamming someone’s head repeatedly against the large bell.

One gaming fan made a few predictions about Far Cry 5:

“FC5 will be a progressive power fantasy where a virtuous and open minded hero overcomes closed minded religious bigots who believe that white cis-hetero tradlife is right. They aren't even attempting to allude to the political statement being made this time around.

"Edit: Going to make another prediction. The sinner in the teaser image, he's gay. That's why they've got him tied up and cut.”
