Politico Credits Laura Ingraham For Cantor Defeat

Conservative talk host credited with taking down GOP star

House majority leader Eric Cantor's defeat to little-known economics professor Dave Bratt shocked political pundits and media personalities across the country Tuesday night. One media personality wasn't surprised at all, though-- because she was partly responsible for the outcome.

Conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham was as responsible, if not more responsible, than anyone else in the country for Bratt's astounding win over a candidate who outspent him 26 to 1, according to a Politico article published Wednesday.

Noting that Tuesday night's result is a "powerful reminder" of the sway and influence talk radio can have over conservative voters, the article essentially attributes the demise of the House of Representative's second in command to talk radio personalities:

In the weeks leading up to Tuesday’s primary, the conservative talk radio host did more to raise Brat’s profile in his Virginia district than his own campaign could ever have done with its paltry budget and paid staff of two, political experts in the state and Washington said Wednesday. Through endorsements, mailings, media appearances and stump speeches, Ingraham, along with a couple of other media personalities on the right, helped turn Brat into a conservative sensation, enabling his stunning upset over House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

Ingraham, for her part, agrees, saying, "The national media wasn’t giving him his due and national tea party groups weren’t lifting a finger to help him. … I knew that if he had a little bit of a boost, he would make a really good run at this."
