Peter Jackson Gives Colbert LOTR Sword For ‘Sticking It To The Tea Party

“This is for sticking it to the Tea Party in the forthcoming election."

Footage included in the upcoming blu-ray release of the second Hobbit installment, The Desolation of Smaug, features director  Peter Jackson giving J.R.R. Tolkien fanatic Stephen Colbert his very own “Sting,” the famous sword wielded by Bilbo and Frodo Baggins in the Hobbit and LOTR series. Jackson’s message to Colbert: “This is for sticking it to the Tea Party in the forthcoming election.”

Before the 2012 election, Colbert announced he would be making a cameo in the film and in December transformed the set of the Colbert Report for “Hobbit Week,” at which he point he proudly mentioned being given the sword. The new blu-ray footage documents the exchange:

Jackson: I don’t know if any of you have watched Stephen’s show, but he is one of the world’s great Tolkien geeks. Geek is the only word, isn’t it? There’s nothing you can actually say to him that he doesn’t know about Tolkien. But we did want to give him a present…. This is for sticking it to the Tea Party in the forthcoming election. I think you’ll need it...

Colbert: Oh my gosh. Forged probably in Gondolan...
