Vice President Mike Pence paid a visit Wednesday to the desecrated Jewish cemetery in Missouri and also aided in the cleanup efforts. KSDK reports that Pence joined Missouri Governor Eric Greitens in helping to clean the historic cemetery in which 200 headstones were vandalized earlier this week. 

“There’s no place in America for hatred, acts of violence or anti-Semitism,” Pence said.

Greitens, who is the state’s first Jewish governor, called the intentional act a “vile desecration” that appears to have been born out of a new wave of anti-Semitism.

“I’ve been talking to lots of leaders in the Jewish Federation. And they’re talking about all the threats to the Jewish Community Centers around the country. They’re certainly seeing that,” he said.

But by raking leaves and cleaning gravesites, the St. Louis Jewish community and its allies aren’t backing down.

“We’re not going to stop. We’re not going to be quiet. We’re going to persevere through this anger and hatred,” said Alana Minoff.

She and her family joined hundreds of others from all different backgrounds and faiths who filled the cemetery to repair the damage. Greitens put out the call for help Tuesday as he announced plans to visit the site.

“I hope this sends a message that our unity is bigger than what happened here and whatever they were trying to accomplish,” said Rev. William Dotson of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wentzville.

The Yiddish term "mensch" is used to describe a stand-up man of truly high moral character. It is, likewise, the only term fitting enough for our Vice President.
