If you're like many Americans, you tuned into the Inauguration of President Donald Trump to witness a piece of history. What you saw, before and after the ceremony, was the breathless reporting by the Main Stream Media about anti-Trump protests that happened all over Washington DC.
Did I write "protests?" That's not exactly the right word, since the people (some of whom were paid agitators) weren't merely standing on a sidewalk with picket signs or even shouting their political beliefs with fervor. Reuters described their activity this way:
Black-clad activists among hundreds of demonstrators protesting Donald Trump's swearing-in on Friday clashed with police a few blocks from the White House, in an outburst of violence rare for an inauguration.
At least 217 people were arrested in the melees, police said.
In the violence, knots of activists in black clothes and masks threw rocks and bottles at officers wearing riot gear, who responded with volleys of tear gas and stun grenades as a helicopter hovered low overhead.
At one flash point, a protester hurled an object through the passenger window of a police van, which sped away in reverse as demonstrators cheered. Earlier, activists used chunks of pavement and baseball bats to shatter the windows of a Bank of America branch and a McDonald's outlet, all symbols of American capitalism.
Multiple vehicles were set on fire, including a black limousine. A knot of people dragged garbage cans into a street a few blocks from the White House and set them ablaze, later throwing a red cap bearing Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan into the flames.
Nope, that's not protected free speech, that's just down right criminal.
But one of the agitators, a proud member of what is being called the Antifa, wasn't as big and bad when the cops showed up, as captured in this hilarious tweet:
He explained that he and his comrades frequently behave in this manner. "We followed the formula we've used in Europe and the US for years... show up, f-ck up fascist faces, break some random sh-t, and watch the right wing tears."
Wait, part of the original game plan is to "f-ck up fascist faces?" That sounds like a crime, right?
"But this time was different and it's your f-cking fault," he continues. "We didn't get slaps on the wrists, we didn't get lost in the crowd. We got f-cking rounded up and arrested."
So let me get this straight. A criminal is surprised when the police don't let him get away with criminal activity? He must've failed civics, because I'm pretty sure that's how this is supposed to work. He goes on to complain that he and his cohorts face ten years in jail.
"It's not fair," he wrote. "We're the good guys."
At the end of his Thoreau-like missive on civil disobedience, he complains that it's really hard to keep young Antifa recruits now that jail is a real possibility. "You have no idea how much this is hurting us," he pleads, unaware that we do have an idea and we find the whole thing pretty entertaining.
But this agitator can find solace in one thing: by the time he gets out of jail in ten years: Donald Trump will no longer be President.
