Parents 'Bum-Rushed' Easter Egg Hunt, Injured Children In Mad Scramble To Be First (VIDEO)

"Kind of like locusts."

Pez makes a classic Easter candy line, and this weekend the company held a classic Easter event: an Easter Egg hunt. Unfortunately, as WFSB first reported, things took an ugly turn right away thanks to rapacious modern parents and their spoiled children.

As noted in the above video, the problem was simply a refusal to wait and take turns, something parents should be teaching their kids. Instead, the parents themselves set a bad example:

"When it came time at like 10:30 a.m., the parents just bum-rushed that area," West Haven resident Nicole Welch, who attended the event with her 4-year-old son, said.

The free event drew hundreds of people, but it quickly got out of hand, according to parents.

“Unfortunately people chose to enter the first field prior to anyone from Pez staff starting the activity. The crowd moved to the second field, waited for only a couple of minutes and proceeded to rush the field without being directed to do so and before the posted start time,” Pez officials said in a statement on Saturday.

Pez officials said the crowd of people “immediately moved to the third field, took over and removed everything well before the activity was to even start.”

"So we started talking to people and say 'hey this is supposed to start at certain time'," Pez General Manager Shawn Peterson said. "Well that lasted about a minute and everyone just rushed the field and took everything."

Welch told Eyewitness News that children were trampled, parents knocked over children and eggs were stolen out of peoples’ baskets. Peterson said the crowd was "kind of like locusts."

On Twitter and Facebook stories from people at the event were posted and complaints made, including that children left with broken Easter baskets, empty hands, and even a bloody nose.

FACEBOOK COMMENT: "My grandson ended up with a bloody from an ADULT in the 9-12 year old section knocking into him!!!! Where was PEZ personnel?? Where was the safety of our children in your thought process?? And to make matters worse, how about almost getting hit by a vehicle leaving your property, which had parked in your lot and was leaving, in very close proximity to the 'egghunt" field'?"

Pez made statements on the event (as quoted above) and also commented on Facebook:

"Due to the actions of a few, the good intent quickly turned into a mess. I would like to sincerely apologize to each of our guests...We only wanted to do good for the local community."

Altogether an ugly scene that was all too familiar to many parents in America today.
