Duck Dynasty patriarch papa Phil Robertson has promised to get behind Donald Trump for president.
Despite having endorsed Ted Cruz for president back in January, Robertson said he would "enthusiastically get behind" Trump.
"The issue in America, in my opinion, is much larger than presidents, prime ministers, kings," Robertson said on Fox News. "The issue before us, in my opinion, is a spiritual one. I don't think it's a political fix. Politicians can help."
Though Robertson initially backed Cruz due to his strong constitutionalist leanings and Christianity, he will be siding with Trump now out of loyalty to the Republican party and the "hope" that Trump's common sense may be a gift from God.
Robertson also expressed what a truly dismal spiritual state the country is in, and believes that people may be flocking to a "complete outsider" like Trump to hopefully break through the depravity.
"Depravity, in my lifetime, has become mainstream," he said. "The citizens of America are seeing that [depravity] and they don't know what to do. We have a spiritual problem in America."
Robertson's new documentary Torchbearer will focus on America's spiritual problem, which will explore when nations throughout history forgot God and descended into madness and tyranny.
"As these empires rise, they remove God as their anchor," Robertson said. "They let men determine what's right, what's wrong, what's good, what's evil, and how much your life is worth. The documentary looks at a historical account, going all the way back thousands of years, and it's always the same — once you remove God then the carnage starts."
