Fandango created an online Oscar ballot for users to determine who they thought the Academy snubbed of an opportunity to win the gold statuette and who they were shocked to see included with the honor of a nomination.

Top snub for Best Actor went handedly to Tom Hanks for his portrayal of a real life Captain Richard Phillips, who was held captive on his ship by Somali pirates in 2009. Users also thought Oprah and Emma Thompson were overlooked, a sentiment many professional movie critiques also mentioned Thursday after the nominees were announced by actor Chris Hemsworth and the Academy's President Cheryl Boone Isaacs.

When Oprah's role in Lee Daniel's The Butler first hit the big screen, both the film and the TV host got a lot of Oscar buzz that ended up not coming to fruition. 

Jonah Hill surprised most movie fans on the ballot for his role in Martin Scorsese's salacious and f-bomb filled Wolf of Wall Street.   

Fan favorites include Jennifer Lawrence for a supporting role in American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave for best picture. 12 Years a Slave saw nine nominations following a close second for the most nominations behind Gravity and American Hustle, who had ten nominations each. This week the newly released promotions for 12 Years a Slave are featuring audio from Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.
