Obama's Christmas Gift to America -- 314,000 New Jobs

10 million with health insurance, clean energy, and a partridge in a pear tree

In the president's weekly address, Obama spread some good news just in time for Christmas: 314,000 jobs were created in November. "And that's not a fluke," said the president.

"It keeps up the solid pace of job creation we've seen all year long," he added.

Obama is touting "the longest streak of private-sector job creation on record." The president notes other "tangible evidence" of progress: 10.9 million new jobs, 10 million more Americans with health insurance, more clean energy, and higher graduation rates among high school and college.

But there is some bad news:

Because even though corporate profits and the stock market have hit all-time highs, the typical family isn’t bringing home more than they did 15 years ago. And that still has to change.

The president is calling on the outgoing Congress to pass a budget, rather than shutdown the government during Christmas. And then when the new Congress convenes in January, Obama promises to "work together" with them "to invest in the things that support faster growth in higher-paying jobs."

Obama offered a few ideas for the new Congress to consider: new roads and bridges, growing exports, reforming the tax system, and of course, raising the minimum wage.

"The United States of America continues to outperform much of the world," Obama said. "And we are going to keep it up until every American feels the gains of a growing economy where it matters most – in your own lives."
