The National Organization for Women launched a website in August 2014 aimed at teenage girls to help empower them to face a world full of sexism and gender inequality. They called the website The Fempowerist.

The website explains its goal:

The mission of fempowerists is to create a society of strong and capable girls who will become the architects of a world based on gender equality. Fempowerists take action to empower other women to break free of the shackles of sexism, and rise to reach their potential.

Current articles on the homepage include topics such as homeless women's periods, Kiera Knightley posing topless to protest photoshopping, and what guys think of high-waisted shorts.

"Why feminism?" the site asks. Luckily, they provide the answers:

Girls ages 16-19 are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault.

The media’s unrealistic portrayal of the women contributes greatly contributes to the poor self esteem of impressionable girls…

American women lag substantially behind men when it comes to their representation in leadership positions.

Women are underrepresented in STEM fields which are usually the highest paying fields.

The pay gap has barely budged in a decade.

Fempowerists can start their own clubs or even submit posts to the site. There are also handy links to its mother site, NOW.org.

The site doesn't appear to be a hit amongst its targeted demographic. With only 254 page likes on Facebook, The Fempowerist isn't that empowering.
