A new campus magazine started by “black and brown LGBTQA creatives” at the University of Texas-San Antonio will only showcase the various art of black and brown people. To be clear to any creative outside of that specific color spectrum who might want to share their art, the magazine isn’t for them. It’s unambiguously titled “No Whites Allowed.”

The launch party for the new “Zine” happens Thursday night and it appears as though white people are at least invited to the event. An invitation appeared on Facebook:

Thursday at La Botanica from 8-11pm there will be the NWA Zine release party! This zine specifically features and promotes black and brown lgbtqa creatives. We hope to showcase our talent and create an open space for our voices to be heard.

Vendors include: St Sucia, Lunaman Talisman, Antemia Kavillari Artwork, guavadoodle, mjsangre_art, and more!!

There will also be a performance by the lovely styles of Shazi Jones and a poetry reading later in the evening. 

For a very long time, black and brown people, especially those who are queer, have been told that they don’t have a space. That they don’t have a voice or a say. With this we would like to create a space. 

We are beautiful. We our brown. We are talented. And our voices should be heard.

This is the new wave of segregation spreading across campuses nationwide and started by the very race that opposed it the first time around. It seems being “progressive” is moving backward.
