Over the weekend, Congressman Bennie Thompson called Justice Clarence Thomas an "Uncle Tom", as we reported here at Truth Revolt. Today, on MSNBC's Now With Alex Wagner, the host tepidly condemned the comment, before attempting to completely justify it.

"I don't think anybody would celebrate that or not call that for what it is which is derogatory and incendiary. But ...," said Wagner, before quoting Jeffrey Toobin attacking Thomas as "embarrassing". But the big "but" came next, as Wagner proceeded to offer an explanation for why Thompson calling Thomas and Uncle Tom was entirely justified:

The congressman was taking issue with a lot of Clarence Thomas' votes on critical issues that face minorities. And while one cannot expect Clarence Thomas to vote a certain way because of the color of his skin, he is someone who has publicly said he has benefited from affirmative action programs and has voted against them each and every time on the court.

You can't expect him to vote a certain way, she says, but he's totally a sell-out and traitor for not doing so. You shouldn't call him an Uncle Tom, but ...

Wagner wants to have it both ways. She wants to say she condemns the language, and then follow that right up with why the term is absolutely appropriate. I guess you might call that being an Aunt Hypocrite.
