MSNBC's Sexism Hypocrisy

MSNBC decries male example, celebrates when done by a woman

MSNBC host Alex Wagner used "Equal Pay Day" to highlight what she called sexism in several areas of government and culture. After a discussion of some controversial Breitbart ads that feature Nancy Pelosi's head superimposed on Miley Cyrus's body, Wagner then teed up what she called an "insidious" example of sexism:

Sexism elsewhere remains alive and well especially on Capitol Hill where it's not as colorful as it is on Breitbart, but pretty insidious. Witness CIA and NSA chief Michael Hayden this week talking about five-term senator Dianne Feinstein's possible motivation for declassifying a critical Senate report on CIA torture.

Wagner then played a clip of Hayden talking to Chris Wallace on Fox News about California Senator Dianne Feinstein. The clip was of Hayden saying that he believed the request may have come from a "deep emotional feeling on the part of the senator," but ultimately one that wouldn't lead to "an objective report."

That, presumably, was the sexist part. Wagner followed it up with a clip of Senator Feinstein responding to Hayden's comments from earlier in the day, with Feinstein using language that appeared to be actually more gender-specific than Hayden's:

It's nonsense. It's kind of stereotypical. That's an old male fall-back position.

But on MSNBC, Hayden is considered the sexist. On Equal Pay Day, Wagner may have inadvertently reminded the country that it is not only wages that continue to be disparate.
