On Monday, MSNBC’s Morning Joe featured an interview with unrepentant terrorist and Obama chum Bill Ayers, who has a new book. They had the interview only after slandering Tea Partiers as nasty and stupid; then they turned to the bombing professor. Returning from break, Morning Joe played a clip of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin blasting President Obama for “palling around” with Ayers. Then they got to the sycophantic interview. First, Mika Brzezinski labeled him the founder of the “militant antiwar group ‘Weather Underground.’” Weather Underground was a terrorist group responsible for multiple bombings.

Here were some of the hard-hitting questions from the Morning Joe panel. From Mika:

What are some of the key confessions in the book?

It’s a memoir. In writing it, what theme emerged?

It’s funny, the first thing you said when I sat down on the set was, ‘Well, I love that Philadelphia Inquirer story. Kids have to go to bed at the same time every day.’

From Mark Halperin:

All right, page 195, you say Chris Matthews is the most fun and entertaining interviewer you’ve ever experienced. We could do two hours on that, but we’re not. We don’t have enough time to do all the facts, it’s a memoir, a lot of rich stuff here. I want to ask you about something you do write about, which is a question of any regret you have for your past actions. Page 174 you say, ‘I’m sorry I engaged extreme tactics to oppose the war. I’m sorry I destroyed war materials and government property.’ But you say you won’t say that, right?

Ayers gets to portray himself as a “teacher,” an “educator,” a family man first and foremost. He says, “What I don’t regret, and what intensely people want me to say I’m sorry about is destroying property, destroying war material. And the reason is because the war in Vietnam was a horrendous crime against humanity. 6,000 people a week were being murdered…What I did, I don’t make much of a claim for it, but it was in opposition to a genocidal war.”

Halperin then asked:

If you could have assassinated the Secretary of Defense, would you have done it?

Ayers then said that the group never harmed human life. That was an apparent lie that went completely unchallenged by the MSNBC panel. Ayers said, “We as a country have not come to terms with the truth about Vietnam.” He then urged Mika to be “a great organizer” for assembling a historic event at which everyone, including members of the government, acknowledged regrets. Ayers added, “When I feel self-righteous, I know I’m wrong.”

Finally, a panelist asked poor Ayers about how it felt to become “public enemy number one” in the 2008 campaign. Ayers then complained that Jeremiah Wright, Rashid Khalidi, and others had been unfairly targeted.
