In today's "How Does MSNBC President Phil Griffin Keep His Job?" update, TVNewser is reporting that the peacock news network's ratings have plummeted, with January's numbers marking a new low:
MSNBC saw another down month in January. The network lost -23% of its primetime viewership and was down -39% for primetime demo vs. January 2014, which was the height of Bridgegate, giving MSNBC a ratings boost for the month
According to the AdWeek website, MSNBC saw major declines in total audience as well as in the coveted Adult 25-54 demographic. For their prime-time programming, 518,000 total viewers tuned in with 141,000 in the key demo. For daytime viewing the numbers are even more dismal: 323,000 total viewers with 93,000 adults 25-54.
The individual shows that suffered the most are detailed below:
In January 2014, “The Rachel Maddow Show” was the fifth most-watched show on cable news in the demo, averaging 305,000 viewers. Last month, Maddow’s show ranked No. 26 in the demo, averaging 153,000, down -50% year-over-year. It remains MSNBC’s most-watched show. Last year, “Morning Joe” was ranked #28 of all cable news shows in the demo. This January it is #47, and in fourth place in the demo behind “Fox & Friends,” “New Day,” and “Morning Express.”
