On Friday, MSNBC host Thomas Roberts talked with Len Everett of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence about the joint release of a new line of Duck Commander shotguns and rifles from gunmaker Mossberg and the Robertson family of "Duck Dynasty" fame. Amazingly, the conversation hints that because of the rifles' high-capacity magazines, they could be used for more than just ducks -- perhaps even shooting people.

During the conversation, Everett explains that the gun industry's consumer base is predominantly "conservative, middle-aged, white males," which host Roberts says is the exact audience that watches Duck Dynasty. Then, they jump to discussing the rise in mass shootings - "mass" meaning when two or more are killed. Cited is the fact that handguns account for 59% of these "mass" shootings, and that 94% of the shooters are male. They did not elaborate whether these males are white and conservative, but the implication is there.

However, even though handguns are the weapon of choice for killing two or more people, Everett and Roberts are more concerned with the high-capacity magazines that will be featured on the Duck Commander rifles. They then make the astonishing leap that perhaps these guns could be used in mass shootings.

Everett: In terms of the dynamics of mass shootings, you mentioned semi-automatic firearms being used. The other very common element here obviously is high-capacity ammunition magazines, and of course that ties into the Duck Dynasty story, where they've now decided in addition to traditional hunting firearms to also try to market some semi-automatic firearms that accept 25 round magazines, which is obviously not necessary for 'plinking' around your house.

Roberts: No, or for taking down a duck. But that's a different story.
