Unable to exactly quantify just how much damage the recent oil spill off the coast of Galveston, Texas would cause the environment, MSNBC's Alex Wagner decided to play the PETA card. Describing the extent of the oil spill, Wagner detailed the amount of actual oil lost, then touched on the "dozens of birds" in the area who had been seen "with some degree of oil on them":
The cost to the Texas economy continue to mount after 168,000 gallons of fuel spewed into the Galveston Bay on Saturday. The spill started when a fright ship and tank barge collided near the intersection of the intercoastal waterway and Houston ship channel. The type of oil that spilled, RMG 380, is black, thick and especially heavy. Unlike gasoline, much of the oil is likely to sink and stay in the bay for months or years. Already, dozens of birds in the area have been found with some degree of oil on them.
A recent study of the Gulf of Mexico indicated that the ocean had actually absorbed much of the methane contained in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the area four years ago.
