Two MSNBC hosts found it absolutely repugnant that the White House is using the term “radical Islamic terrorism.” So much so, they couldn’t even say the words.
On Tuesday, Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle spoke with deputy advisor on national security Dr. Sebastian Gorka who concisely defined our Islamic enemy, but was also careful to note that the U.S. would work with “Muslim partners” to destroy the dangerous ideology:
“We will call it radical Islamic terrorism. We will target the ideology and we will call them out for being evil and we will work with our Muslim partners. This is the crucial part: We are not here to invade other people’s countries and occupy them. The president thinks that’s fundamentally un-American. We are here to help those nations that share our values, share our interests, and help them fight the fight… [against] this very severe threat to their own countries.”
Velshi, who couldn’t even repeat the term, even as a quotation, responded, “Okay, I, I, I, again, I don’t understand how calling it by its name helps stop the attacks in Paris or in Belgium or in London.”
Gorka fired off a solid counter argument:
“So, if you, God forbid, caught cancer, and the hospital was forbidden from calling it cancer and said, ‘You have the flu. Go home and hydrate and take some aspirins,’ would you actually have the right treatment?”
“No, but there’s still no cure for cancer,” Ruhle said.
“Sorry,” Gorka said, confused. “Have you not heard of chemo?”
“I have heard of chemo, and cancer can still kill you. So, it doesn’t matter what you call it,” Ruhle stated.
Gorka couldn’t believe his ears and repeated his question about calling cancer the flu. But Velshi was more interested in moving on. He said, “Mr. Gorka, there must be a better response to that, right? I asked you a very straight-forward question. This has morphed into something else.”
“If you misdiagnose anything, whether it’s a serious disease or an international geopolitical threat, you will never solve it,” Gorka fired back.
Ruhle and Velshi were both visibly disgusted as Gorka blamed the weakness of the Obama administration for refusing to call out Islam as a threat and instead blamed economics or disenfranchisement.
Not at all, Gorka said, adding, “It’s about people who have an ideology that is evil and has to be destroyed.”
