On Monday, Alex Wagner of MSNBC uncovered the latest threat to Obamacare - nuns!
That's right! A group of Catholic nuns from Denver called the Little Sisters of the Poor who run nursing homes for the elderly, are plotting a maniacal scheme to overthrow Obamacare. Or, they are just upset over having to cover contraception for their employees - something that is against their religious beliefs.
Here is Wagner's "discovery:"
The administration must now deal with this latest threat to the nation's health care law; these ladies -- The Little Sisters of the Poor. They are a group of Denver based Catholic nuns who run nursing homes for the elderly. And they are opposed to the so-called contraceptive mandate, requiring most employers to provide insurance policies that cover contraception.
The Little Sisters are not exempt from providing contraception to their employees, or abortion coverage for that matter, as the administration does not see them as a "religious employer." They have filed a lawsuit. According to Fox News, The Justice Department claims they are exempt from the contraception mandate in effect - all they have to do is sign a waiver. This waiver would exempt them from directly providing those services but would allow a third-party provider to issue contraception or abortion coverage to their employees. The nuns would feel complicit if ordered to sign the waiver.
If they do not sign, the Little Sisters could be fined up to $4.5 million per year. Who is the threat now?
