Mika Brzezinski: Any Republican Who Dredges Up Monica is ‘Misogynistic, Sexist Hypocrite’

Blames entire GOP for Rand Paul bringing up Monica Lewinsky

On Monday's Morning Joe program, co-host Mika Brzezinski had a mini-meltdown over Rand Paul's raising the Monica Lewinsky scandal with regards to a possible Hillary Clinton candidacy in 2016. While much of what Brzezinski said was valid, as is the practice at MSNBC, she blamed the entire Republican Party for the words of one Republican Senator who brought up the Lewinsky scandal as an issue, declaring that "any Republican who is bringing this up and dredging this up is a misogynistic, sexist hypocrite."

Brzezinski began the segment with a clip from Meet The Press, where former GOP standard bearer Mitt Romney was asked about Rand Paul bringing up the Bill Clinton scandal. Romney said that it should not be an issue for a Hillary Clinton candidacy. She then using guest Mark Halrprin as a foil launched into her attack on the GOP.  Notice that she keeps on using the noun "they" and "some Republicans," almost as if the subject was under consideration for the party's platform.  She doesn't mention Rand Paul, the one Senator who made it an issue, until the very end.

Brzezinski: Some Republicans have been bringing this up along the way and doubling down on it. I just have one question for Mark Halpern. If Bill Clinton could run for president, would he win?

Halprin: 2 for 2, I think he would take on all comers. Governor Romney praised his economic record and --

Brzezinski: They are asking, especially some of the moral issues that happened in the White House. These republicans are leading up and leading to more questions to be like Mitt Romney about the Monica Lewinsky affair and problems in his marriage and whether or not that would affect Hillary Clinton. Let me ask you again. If Bill Clinton ran again, if he could, would he win?

Halprin: I think he would beat any Republican I can think of.

Brzezinski: Any Republican who is dredging this up is a misogynistic, sexist hypocrite. Because if Bill Clinton can win again with all of these problems, and Hillary Clinton they can bring down because of this and they think they can each go after it, they are clueless and they are complete sexists because it's not even her affair. Now, let me ask you this. If she had an affair in the White House with a younger man, would the same result be 20 years later, ten years later, would she be able to run again and win? This is still a man's world. You guys are all -- I’m sorry, not you but, please. I better not go on. This whole thing is ridiculous and these Republicans, please. Please keep doing it. Rand Paul, please. I beg you, keep going after it. Because I’ll tell you right now, it will backfire so badly. It will backfire so badly and you guys will be in the same exact place where you are right now.
