Media Matters Accuses Dowd Of Chelsea Jealousy

New York Times columnist makes less than half of Chelsea Clinton

Media Matters is coming to the defense of Chelsea Clinton after New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd criticized the former first daughter for the speaking fees she was collecting

Dowd recently wrote that there was "something unseemly" about the $75,000 Chelsea Clinton collects per speech on the lecture circuit. This prompted Media Matters to contact American Program Bureau, one of two organizations that book speeches for Dowd, to find that Dowd makes only $30,000 per speech.

The article then asked if Dowd, like Clinton, donated her fees to charity:

Could the same be said of Dowd's own work on the paid speaking circuit? She has appeared at college campuses ranging from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to Hofstra University and the University of Rochester in the past. Her paid appearances have also spanned the likes of the Philadelphia Bar Association and Temple B'nai Abraham in Livingston, N.J.

Chelsea Clinton donates her speaking fees to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.
