Echoing actress Nicole Kidman, Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey has elected to be one of the few adults in an industry largely run by overgrown children.
Though McConaughey never supported candidate Donald Trump, he does think that our new President's critics should stop being so destructive and come together to give Trump a chance, or at least do something constructive.
Speaking with ChannelFi to promote his new movie Gold, McConaughey said Hollywood doesn't have much of a choice now, and should give Trump a break.
"He’s our president,” the Oscar winner said. "And, it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an Inauguration and time as we’ve had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace and shake hands with this fact. And be constructive with him over the next four years."
McConaughey also said that people should adopt a "wait and see" attitude towards his administration.
"So anyone, even those who may strongly disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — and that’s another thing, we’ll see what he does compares to what he has said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be," he said.
"Cause he’s our president for the next four years, at least," McConaughey concluded, "the President of the United States."
This statement stands in stark contrast from actor David Harbour telling the audience at the SAG awards that Trump opponents need to "punch" people in the face over their politics.
