It is Star Wars Premiere Week and the hype could not be any more fevered in pitch. Across the world fans are at their limit of patience and bursting at the seams for the new film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and in one of many spectacular expressions of that fandom that we'll see with most theaters opening the film today, London has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square is a world-famous landmark, but today it is famous anew as it has been turned into one of the largest lightsabers ever for the star-studded UK premiere. (Why only "one of" the largest? Because Dublin gave London a run for its Imperial Credits.)
Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square... transformed into a lightsaber. May the Force be with you! #TheForceAwakens https://t.co/E9DvQu4Foc

Disney's marketing for the film is beyond extravagant, with major events around the globe, including a life-size model of the interior of a Star Destroyer in London and an army of Storm Troopers in Hollywood. Still, a giant lightsaber on a monument over 170 years old will be tough to beat.
And it's not just for Jedi, the Sith are in too. That's what happens when you have an Open Borders society, folks!
