Justice Ginsberg on National Anthem Protests: ‘Stupid,’ ‘Arrogant’

The Left’s favorite judge breaks with the pack.

Speaking to Yahoo’s Katie Couric, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 83, broke with most leftist thought on NFL stars like Colin Kaepernick protesting the national anthem, calling them “dumb and disrespectful.” This is certainly unexpected coming from the “Notorious RBG.”

"I would have the same answer if you asked me about flag burning,” Ginsburg said. “I think it's a terrible thing to do, but I wouldn't lock a person up for doing it. I would point out how ridiculous it seems to me to do such an act."

“If they want to be stupid, there's no law that should be preventive,” she added. “If they want to be arrogant, there's no law that prevents them from that. What I would do is strongly take issue with the point of view that they are expressing when they do that."

As CNN noted, Ginsburg’s feelings echoed those of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, a conservative judge she was honored to call a friend. Once when asked about burning the America flag, Scalia had this to say:

"If I were King, I would not allow people to go about burning the American flag. However, we have a First Amendment, which says that the right of free speech shall not be abridged."

Ginsburg is out promoting her new book, My Own Words.
