Minutes before Stephen Colbert taped his Tuesday show, news broke that FBI director James Comey had been fired. The news was so fresh, most of the audience was unaware as it sat isolated and distracted in a busy CBS television studio.
So when The Late Show host made the announcement live, his audience clapped and cheered loudly, stunning the host who expected a completely different reaction.
“Wow, wow,” Colbert said. “Huge, huge Donald Trump fans here tonight.”
On the contrary, it only shows that his liberal audience hadn’t been told what to think about it yet.
But by the time Colbert mentioned Attorney General Jeff Sessions as having recommended Comey’s fate, the audience was back to booing.
Of course, leftists have wanted Comey gone for awhile now, but since it happened on Trump’s watch, they hate it. If Hillary Clinton were president and she fired Comey, the left would view it as an historic decision and praise it to the skies.
