Jon Stewart Tackles 'Grubergate,' Calls Gruber 'Obamacare Consultant'

Tuesday night, Jon Stewart of Comedy Central's The Daily Show broke his silence on the Jonathan Gruber scandal and gave a fairly satisfying response. While the comedic host did try to downplay some of the serious aspects of Jonathan Gruber's off the cuff comments, even referring to him as an "Obamacare consultant" rather than "Obamacare architect," he avoided going full apologist.

Stewart pulled no punches on Gruber, calling him a gamut of disparaging names from "egghead" to the personification of "classic movie nerd Eddie Deezen."

After playing several clips of Gruber essentially incriminating himself by calling American voters "stupid," Stewart went even deeper and highlighted that Gruber was not just some "peripheral character" in the Obamacare rollout, playing clips from as far back as 2006 where Obama explicitly used Jonathan Gruber's name as one whose ideas helped create his healthcare law. Stewart also highlighted that Gruber attended "five of the twelve meetings at the Obama White House" and was paid 393,000 by the Obama administration to provide "technical advice" on drafting the law.

When it came to Nancy Pelosi denying that she knew who Jonathan Gruber actually was, Stewart became merciless and immediately exposed the clip in 2009 where Pelosi told reporters to read an analysis of Obamacare made by "Jonathan Gruber of MIT."
